The '80s and '90s don't seem like that long ago, but the time span has changed our society in ways our parents and grandparents never would have imagined. I suppose this is what it feels like to get old. While I take a moment to reflect on decades long gone, enjoy this list of 18 things you never said in the '80s and '90s.
1--"I'm having trouble logging into my class".
2--"I'll have my phone on me".
3--"Can you text me directions?"
4--"Can I download your playlist?"
5--"I'll have a tall non-fat latte with foam and room, please."
6--"I think I left my phone in the bathroom?"
7--"I accidentally dropped my phone in the toilet."
8--"Let's stay home and stream the concert."
9--"My video went viral!"
10--"I'm a freelance writer on the web."
11--"I can send faxes from my e-mail!"
12--"Click my link to find out more."
13--"I think I spilled Red Bull on my keyboard."
14--"Look...no trans-fat."
15--"I forgot my password and got locked out of my profile."
16--"I'll just send you a friend request."
17--"I've got the entire season on my TiVo."
18--"I decided not to go out last night. I just stayed home and Googled myself."
Looking back, it's interesting to see how the times have changed and how technology has affected so much of our lives, right down to the way we talk. If you would have asked me for a friend request in the late 1980s or most of the 1990s, I would have looked at you like you were an alien. Prior to Internet based social networking, the words "friend" and "request" probably never would have been used together to portray an idea. As I reflect on this list, I suddenly miss the simplicity of our less advanced technological culture. At the risk of sharing too much information, I would like to pass on this factoid (pun intended) about myself:
Before I discovered the Internet, I had a pretty impressive set of abs.
Oh well, I suppose I could always Google a work-out routine.
Good one :-)
This is cleverly fun. The modern expressions we use can tell us a great deal about the way we live.
